Advice for people to stay away from windows after scaffolding collapsed and debris was scattered by strong winds is no longer in place.

Fire crews were called to Sandgate High Street, near Folkestone, yesterday evening after the structure gave way at the village's seafront.

A yellow warning for wind was issued by the Met Office yesterday lasting until 8pm, with gusts of around 47mph predicted.

And the weather had been causing problems across the county, including Go Ape being forced to close early.

The fire service were called to the scene shortly after 4.30pm yesterday. Two fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the scene, where crews helped to make it safe.

A spokesman said at the time: "People in the area of Sandgate High Street, near Folkestone, are advised to stay away from windows due to a collapsed scaffolding and debris being scattered by strong winds.

"Please share this information with anyone in the area who may not have access to social media."

Firefighters were called to the collapsed scaffolding in Riveria Court and St John's Court.

A spokesman added: "Efforts have been made to secure the scene to prevent further damage and the site owner has been notified."

Crews left the high street at 7.30pm.

This morning, the service confirmed no injuries were reported and the previous advice for people to avoid windows due to scattered debris is no longer in place. A duty of care was also left with the site manager.
