Ms van Deelen will move from The Sittingbourne School, where she worked as deputy head, in September.

Before her Sittingbourne job, she was assistant head of sixth form at Folkestone Academy, which is also run by Turner Schools.

She will work under current principal Kristina Yates, who will become executive principal of both schools.

Ms Van Deelen said that she was "thrilled" to get the job, which she described as a "real privilege".

"It is such an exciting time to be working at Turner Free School, and I am so positive about what we have planned for the coming years," she added.

"I’m really looking forward to working with our community to provide an excellent education for the young people within our care."

Seamus Murphy, Chief Executive of Turner Schools said the trust was "delighted to welcome Ms van Deelen back" to the trust.

"She is a highly experienced school leader who will be a huge asset to the trust and to every member of the TFS community and who will help take the school from strength to strength," he said.

"We want to make sure that every pupil across our schools receives the best possible education, and I believe that Ms van Deelen will be instrumental to making sure that happens."
