Ceremonies of remembrance will be held in towns and villages this week as the nation honours those who gave their lives in war.

Last year's events across Folkestone and Hythe were significantly scaled down due to the pandemic restrictions in place, so this year many will be glad to be able to pay their respects to the fallen in person.

The nation will mark Armistice Day tomorrow, with the traditional two minutes of silence at 11am, and there will also be services and parades on Remembrance Sunday.

In Folkestone tomorrow the Royal British Legion will hold a service at the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) Memorial at Cheriton Road Cemetery, with attendees asked to arrive for 10.50am.

On Remembrance Sunday itself there will be a service and parade, starting at 10.40am at the war Memorial at the top of the Road of Remembrance. Those attending are asked to wear masks as it is expected the area will be crowded.

Hythe Town Council will stage its annual civic parade and service at the war memorial in The Grove, with the parade setting off from the south bank of the Royal Military Canal near the Canal Bandstand at 10.20am.

Following the service at the memorial, the parade will reassemble in the high street, opposite the Town Square and the Mayor will take the salute at the town hall.
