Even a smoke detector caught light when a blaze broke in at a block of flats.
The device had fallen from the ceiling and been burned by flames on the carpeting.
A Folkestone Fire Station spokesman said: “The detector had sounded the alarm but it then fell on the floor and caught fire.”
Fire crews were called to the blaze in the corridor of the block at Bradstone Road, Folkestone, at 8pm yesterday.
Two pumps from the Folkestone station were called but the blaze was a small one that was put out by a dry powder extinguisher.
Damage was limited but the corridor was smoke-logged.
Police are investigating the fire.
