An uncertain future faces staff at Saga this Christmas as the company has announced redundancies will be made - but the number is unclear.

The over-50s holiday and insurance company, which has about 5,000 employees and has its headquarters in Folkestone, is set to ditch an amount of its workers this month as part of a "restructure"

It follows on from the last festive season, where about 100 of its workers were left jobless just before Christmas.

But Saga says it is hoping to "retain the majority of those under consultation".

A statement from the company said: "As part of our normal business planning we constantly review our operations to ensure that we always deliver outstanding service to our customers.

"As a result of the most recent review we have taken the decision to restructure some areas within Saga Holidays and have started a consultation process with a number of individuals from within this area.

"While we're unable to confirm the detail of any changes until after the consultation process is complete, we can confirm that the restructure would create a number of alternative roles.

"We also have a number of existing vacancies across the wider business and we’re therefore hopeful that we will be able to retain the majority of those under consultation within the business."
