Winds of up to 50mph are battering the Kent coast today as the county feels the full force of Storm Brian.

Seaside towns like Folkestone are most-affected by the gales, which have swept in from the south west.

P&O Ferries has already warned of delays of more than an hour because of the choppy seas, with Network Rail also telling train passengers to expect changes to services.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as some parts of the country experience winds of up to 70mph.

It is expected to be in place until midnight today, with the storm predicted to be at its worst in the mid-afternoon.

Conditions are already extremely windy in Folkestone, where it was decided last night to close the harbour arm because of the predicted weather.

Met Office forecaster Chris Page said: "Both coastal sites and inland areas are likely to experience strong winds so you should stay up to date with the latest forecast and only make travel if you have to.”
