Terrorist checks delay passengers

SECURITY has been stepped up across Shepway as a result of the terrorist attacks in America on Tuesday.
Eurotunnel and Eurostar passengers can expect delays through the Channel Tunnel as the intensity and frequency of traveller and vehicle searches increases.
Light aircraft were being directed to land at Lydd Airport if they were already en route to England from Europe, but no flights will take off from the strip in the near future.
Firefighters are on standby in case they are needed to join the Kent brigade's overseas search and rescue team. The police have also been instructed to up security levels.
Soldiers at Shorncliffe Barracks in Folkestone are on a high state of alert. They are awaiting instructions from the Ministry of Defence.
The Samaritans have received a number of calls from people distressed and upset by the graphic news pictures which brought many work places to a standstill all afternoon.
Shoppers gathered in front of the window displays of electrical and television rental stores in the town centre to watch the shocking events unfold.
