Kent is fast gaining a reputation as a foodie's paradise, with four gastropubs just this week being named among the best in the country.

And now even the grub being offered at one of the county's non-league football grounds has got everybody raving.

It is all down to a Twitter account called Footy Scran, which every week showcases the best - and worst - examples of the dishes being served up to match-going fans.

They were recently asked for their top five clubs for food nationwide, and Folkestone Invicta made the list alongside the likes of Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

At the weekend I was hoping to have a chat with the team behind the hit menu at Cheriton Road, so I loitered about waiting for the half-time rush to subside.

Big mistake. Even as the final whistle went and the home side celebrated a 2-1 win, still they queued for their burgers and loaded fries.

Now in their third season providing catering at the club, family-run firm Just The Ticket find themselves working flat-out to meet the surging matchday demand.

But that is the price of success - especially now chef Max Knight's creations are going viral on social media every time Invicta play at home.

Once service was over and the crowd drifted away, I caught up with Max for his take on all the attention.

"It is lovely, and it is crazy," he said.

"Like you said, it's madness. And we feel overwhelmed - overwhelmed with our supporters, with the people that are publicising us, people that are posting pictures.

"We're so grateful. We're an independent business and we're overwhelmed. We're absolutely smiling from ear to ear."

Quick as a flash, Max is offering to knock up what he says is the most popular item on the menu: an absolutely stacked double cheeseburger.

I've eaten my fair share of football burgers and pies down the years, from Premier League grounds right down to non-league, and it's fair to say the quality varies dramatically.

And as the examples shared on Footy Scran confirm, being top of the league on the pitch does not guarantee your grub won't be facing a battle against the drop.

The burger I'm presented with is absolutely fantastic. Juicy meat, oozing cheese, caramelised onions and some chilli pepper for a spicy edge.

So what does Max think sets their offering apart when it comes to matchday meals?

"It's the ingredients," he said.

"Everything is local produce, so all my meat comes from my local butcher. We use Farm Butchers down in New Romney. Our fresh veg comes from Folkestone market.

"Everything is homemade, and that's what sets us apart from the rest.

"We put our heart and soul into it. We wouldn't serve what we wouldn't eat, and everything is as local as possible. That's what food's all about."

All the attention put on the club by the popularity of its food on social media has meant supporters from the away team are always keen to sample what's on offer.

It also means a lot of interaction for the club itself online, as Invicta social media manager Anthony Hassan explained.

"Credit to whoever came up with the Footy Scran account," he said, "I'd never have thought pictures of burgers from football grounds would be so popular, or controversial.

"It's near phone-melting having a picture of your food going viral, especially when they post it on a matchday.

"For a good 24 hours your phone is constantly buzzing with likes, scran puns and with some very bad takes on food."

It is a nice problem to have - and one that does not look like going away soon.

Regardless of results on the pitch, the food at Folkestone Invicta is giving fans something to cheer about, week in, week out.

Out of five:

Food: Absolutely fantastic. Compared to your average stadium grub, this stuff is title-winning quality *****

Drink: All the soft drinks you'd expect at the football. For something stronger check out Bar Invicta next door ***

Decor: It's a football ground - either take your scran onto the terraces or pull up a seat in the recently refurbished beer garden ***

Staff: Despite a tidal wave of demand all game long, Max and the team keep the food coming with a smile ****

Price: A double cheeseburger will set you back £9.50, which may sound a lot for non-league football, but the portion size and quality of ingredients make it great value ****
