Barclays Folkestone branch set to shut amid national closures

A town centre Barclays is set to close.
The Folkestone branch will shut its counters down for the final time later this year.
Barclays, one of the UK's big four banks, said visits to the branch had declined as people increasingly made use of other means of managing their money, such as telephone banking or online apps.
In an online statement, the bank claimed that fewer than 10 customers use the Sandgate Road branch "regularly, as the only way to do their banking".
It added that "90% of people who use our branch have also banked using the app, online and by phone in 2021," and also claimed that "20% of this branch’s customers have used nearby branches in the last 12 months".
This is despite the fact that the two closest branches – Hythe and Deal – both shut in 2018 and February 2022 respectively.
After the closure, the closest in-person branches will be in Ashford and Canterbury, both at least half an hour away by car.
The branch will close on June 23 at 12pm, as one of 14 branches across England and Wales to be shut in the latest swathe of closures.
More than 100 banks are expected to shut across the UK this year.
No other branches in Kent have been affected by the latest announcement.
