Two men have been arrested on suspicion of running over two women before driving off and crashing into a tree.

The Tram Road car park in Folkestone Harbour was taped off after a silver Peugeot 206 hit two women walking shortly after 3am this morning.

The car then sped off and eventually crashed into a tree in Churchill Avenue, where fire crews were called to free two men from the wreckage.

The driver in his 20s suffered serious leg injuries and remains in hospital in London.

The passenger, a 19-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.

Both have been arrested in connection with a number of offences, including dangerous driving and failing to stop after a crash.

The two women hit in the car park were taken to hospital, but have since been discharged.

Today officers could been seen marking parts of a rear light as well as blood on the tarmac.

Now officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information.

Det Sgt Scott Lynch said: “We would like to speak to anyone who either saw the initial collision in the car park, or who perhaps later saw the vehicle leading up to the moment when it collided with a tree.

“If you haven’t been in touch yet, please contact us immediately.”
