Travellers on recreation ground in Folkestone order by courts to move on
16:12, 23 June 2017
Travellers have been ordered to move on after pitching up on a recreation ground in Folkestone.
Shepway District Council was granted a court order by magistrates in Canterbury this morning.
It gives the council permission to remove the encampment - four cars and two caravans - from the St Mary’s Recreation Ground in Shorncliffe Road.
The council said the camp was set up on Monday and officers had been “following procedures to regain possession of the land”.
The occupants have 24 hours to move on by themselves before the council is legally allowed to use bailiffs to evict the travellers.
