A 16-year-old boy has been charged after police discovered a suspected cannabis factory in Folkestone.

Police community support officers (PCSOs) attended a property in Clarence Street on Saturday, May 2 following concerns from residents over the smell of cannabis in the area.

The PCSOs were joined with a regular officer and discovered around 150 plants believed to be cannabis.

They have since arrested and charged the boy - who cannot be named because of his age - with producing cannabis, along with homeless 31-year-old Ze Vas Thang.

The pair have been remanded in custody and will appear at Canterbury Crown Court on May 18.

They were among more than a dozen suspects arrested by police during a series of raids in east Kent.

Ten men, four women and two teenage boys were taken in for questioning after homes across the east of the county were targeted.

A large quantity of drugs – thought to be heroin, cocaine and cannabis – was seized during the operation.
