A spokesman for Stagecoach said: "We can confirm that a route 19 bus travelling towards Folkestone bus station returning from Hawkinge was involved in an accident with a car on Blackbull Road this morning.
"Our first thoughts are for the driver of the car and their passenger who were both taken to hospital.
"There are no reported injuries to anyone on board the bus at the time, including the bus driver. We're working closely with the police investigation into what happened."
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "I can confirm we were called at approximately 7.45am today to reports of an RTC.
"Ambulance crews attended and two patients were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
"Both patients were conscious at the scene."
James Hornsey was among the residents who awoke to the commotion about 7.40am.
He didn't witness the crash but heard a loud sound, before peering out of his living room window and calling the emergency services for assistance.
He said: "The car is fully smashed and the bus is damaged on the right.
"The bus was coming down the hill and I think the car has come round the corner of Pavillion Road but I can't be sure."
