Unauthorised encampment sets up in Cheriton Road car park in Folkestone

A traveller encampment set up in a Folkestone car park.

The group are understood to have arrived last night in Cheriton Road, in the lot near Invicta Football Club.

Police were seen in the car park this morning and told the people to leave by midday today.

A witness said there were around eight or nine caravans.

A spokesman for the police said: "Kent Police has been made aware of an unauthorised encampment near Cheriton Road, Folkestone.

"Officers have attended and are working with the local authority and partners regarding the matter."

Folkestone and Hythe District Council own the car park.

A spokesman for the authority said: "The travellers have left the car park following a discussion with them involving officers of FHDC and those from Kent Police."
