A building site had to be evacuated after workers discovered an unexploded bomb.

Police and bomb disposal experts were called to the development in Folkestone earlier today following the report.

The wartime device was found at the multimillion pound 'Shoreline Folkestone site' at 12.10pm.

Eyewitnesses reported that the road and boardwalk were closed close to the Leas Lift, with workers evacuated while the device was dealt with.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at around 12.10pm today following the discovery of an unexploded wartime device at a construction site in Lower Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

"Officers attended and the device was safely dealt with by explosives experts who were also at the scene".

The road and walk has since reopened, and it is believed that workers have returned to the site.

Work started on the 84 flats last year, right on the shingle, and is phase one of a major seafront overhaul which will eventually incorporate 1,000 homes, shops and restaurants.

A similar discovery was made at a building site in Ashford in November of last year.

More as we get it.
