A young Folkestone resident has taken the chop in an effort to raise money for her little sister's cancer battle.

Lola Nash, 10, decided that she wanted to grow out her hair and have a special cut to raise money for her sister Maya's fight with neuroblastoma.

She also chose to donate the hair that was cut off to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for cancer victims.

While Maya is in America undergoing the second round of specialist treatment, her family are desperately trying to raise money to help her ensure the cancer she has beaten doesn't return.

Neuroblastoma has a 50% chance of returning in children, and if it does return then Maya's chances of survival will dip below 10%.

Maya's mum Dellanie said: "Knowing how aggressive Maya's cancer is as oncology parents, we are not comfortable accepting a wait-and-see approach".

In a post on her fundraising page, Lola said: "Although my long hair is nowhere near as long as Princess Rapunzel's hair, I thought long and hard before making a big decision to donate my hair.

"I believe that every little girl is a princess, and instead of letting it go to waste, I want to share my crown with a little girl who needs it more.

"My little sister Maya’s treatment is not over yet, she has more treatments in New York over the next six months.

"The treatment she has endured (and is still facing) these last two years is intense, we are so proud of how she has handled everything. I love her dearly. Super-girl Maya is our own little Super-duper hero!"

The haircut was hosted by Luxford’s Hair & Beauty on Firs Lane in Folkestone, where there was also a cake sale and raffle entry.

She has raised £650 so far- more than double her target of £300.

The raffle draw will be made at Luxford's on Halloween- which also happens to be Lola's birthday.

The soon-to-be-11-year-old's efforts are part of a wave of fundraising campaigns lead by the Nash family, with the latest coming from her namesake Lola Santer, her older brother's girlfriend.

The older Lola, who is the girlfriend of one of Maya's brothers, will be undertaking a skydive for Maya.

Her efforts have raised £985 so far, and donation are still open.

There are several upcoming fundraisers including a concert at Hythe Football Club on November 30, and Maya's family are asking anyone who is thinking of raising money to keep Maya in their mind.
