A new wine shop from the team behind a hit burger restaurant is set to open on Friday.

Pulp Fiction in Folkestone will sell a selection of wines by the bottle, and some by the glass, as well as offering a range of small dishes to eat alongside.

The shop, with a small number of tables, will occupy the ground floor of the premises in Rendezvous Street, and there are plans to later open a bar in the basement.

Owner Ben Denner, who moved to the town with his wife and daughter three years ago, hopes the new venture represents a vote of confidence in the town's flourishing food scene.

"I think it's only going from strength to strength at the moment," he said of Folkestone's hospitality industry.

"I've only been in town for three years and already I'm seeing things going in the right direction from when I've been here.

"At Pulp Fiction people can sit in and sample the wines from the shop, as well as a selection of wines by the glass that'll be rotating daily, and we'll be serving toasted sandwiches and charcuterie as well."

Mr Denner started his Lucky Chip burger chain in London, before opening a new branch in Folkestone in April 2021.

His pairing of gourmet burgers with fine wines hit the headlines in 2016 when he received a cease and desist letter from Mark Wahlberg's lawyers after naming a burger in honour of the Hollywood actor.

The new venue in Folkestone is similar to another new wine shop, John Dory in Sandgate, which has proved a popular addition to the village high street since it opened earlier this year.
