A mother who has been barred from every Asda in the UK for allegedly being aggressive to staff will need someone else to spend her refund on a gift card.
Natasha Hamlin, of The Durlocks in Folkestone, returned a glass table to the Bouverie Place supermarket after claiming it shattered and a shard got stuck in her daughter’s foot.
She says the balance of £142 was supposed to have been refunded on an Asda gift card but when she went to use the card, it was empty.
A “frustrated” conversation between Mrs Hamlin and a member of staff ended with her being banned from the store.
The mother-of-two said: “I would like the ban lifted as I wasn’t in the wrong and I wasn’t being aggressive.
“The manager said on the phone it was suggested I was aggressive just because of my body language.”
The row was over whether or not Miss Hamlin had been given the correct refund.
She said: “They gave it to me but kept the ban in place.
“They didn’t deal with it to stop all of the frustration.
“They could have cancelled that card as they had the details of it on the paper receipt and just put it on another card so I could pay for my shopping.”
An Asda spokesman said: “We are sorry for Ms Hamlin’s experience during our refund process and are currently looking into what happened.
“We always want to welcome customers into our stores and asking them not to visit us is always a last resort.
“However, we would encourage Ms Hamlin to contact us directly so we can discuss the matter further.”
Miss Hamlin still hasn’t spent the money and claimed a member of staff told her that someone else would have to do her shopping.
“They have given me a gift card but I am still banned from all UK stores and cannot even use it for online shopping,” she said.
It is understood the ban is nationwide to coincide with Asda’s policy, which is a ban in one store is a ban in all.
