Cash-strapped Folkestone in plea to fans
00:00, 05 December 2002
FOLKESTONE Invicta FC's financial director Andy Ingleston has urged the people of the town to turn up in big numbers at Cheriton Road on Saturday for the club's Dr Martens League Premier Division encounter with Tiverton Town.
It's the club's first home match since it went public over its current financial plight. At the shareholders' annual meeting Mr Ingleston said: "Now is the time for the people of the town to turn up and help to save the club if they still want a senior football club in Folkestone."
Earlier Mr Ingleston said the club had immediate outstanding debts of around £20,000, primarily to the Inland Revenue and again appealed for more people to get involved in the running of the club.
Mr Ingleston said that an ideal situation would be for somebody else to take over the financial side so that he could take a more active role in taking the club forward.
Invicta recently announced they needed £30,000 to keep the club running beyond Christmas and another £40,000 on top of gate receipts to see them through to the end of the season. Chairman Bob Dix stressed: "We cannot survive on the 300 or so we got for our last home game."
Kick off at Cheriton Road on Saturday is at 3pm and children accompanied by a paying adult will be allowed in free with a maximum of two children per adult.
