Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley wants to break the points record in Ryman League Division 1 South

00:00, 06 April 2016

Champions Folkestone want to underline their quality by setting the highest points tally in Ryman League Division 1 South history.

Invicta already have 105 points with three games left to pass the 109 which Burgess Hill chalked up last season.

Neil Cugley’s side wrapped up the title before Easter and they’re 21 points clear but the manager is determined they won’t coast to the finishing line.

Cugley said: "We want to get a record number of points. It would be nice to have that in our record book. We need two more wins to do that, so it gives us something to aim for.

"You’ve got to keep setting the lads targets otherwise the season just finishes.

"We’ve got two of our last three games at home, we want to finish on a high and Ian Draycott wants to finish as the leading goalscorer, which would be great for us.

"All those things help motivate the players to the end of the season.

"It’s nice to have two of those three games at home because when you go to some of the pitches we’re playing on at the moment, they’re not good."

Folkestone host Carshalton on Saturday, when supporters can have their picture taken with the league trophy in the Wilf Armory Suite from 1.30pm.

Draycott will be looking to add to his 37 goals in all competitions, while one of Invicta’s other strikers is potentially playing to earn a new deal.

Cugley said: "Some people can still push to claim for next year.

"Certain players have come to the fore, like Carl Rook. You might think he’s had better days but he’s been excellent in the last few games.

"The way he’s playing at the moment, he has got another season in him. I’m not saying (he’d play) week in, week out but he’s a bubbly character in the changing room.

"We’ll have to talk about him but he’s been a big asset to our club for the last two or three months. His experience has been excellent for the other players."
