Folkestone Invicta fly to Guernsey this weekend for a game manager Neil Cugley still feels shouldn’t be on their fixture list.

Cugley has been outspoken in the past about the Channel Islanders’ participation in the Ryman League and he’s still not a fan.

Travelling sides often have to leave players behind because the travel commitments eat into their working week and Cugley doesn’t believe that’s right.

He said: "I’ve made my feelings clear – I don’t think they should be in the league.

"It’s not because they’re not a good side, or because they’re not good people over there but because of all the complications that come with it.

"We’re trying to keep it as normal as we can on the playing side by kicking off at 3pm. Our ex-chairman (Mark Jenner) said it was simple to go earlier but these things are never simple."

Folkestone’s players are meeting at 7.30am on Saturday, flying out of Gatwick Airport at around 10am and returning to the UK mainland on Sunday.

Cugley said: "I asked the players what they wanted to do and they didn’t want to stay overnight at Gatwick (on Friday) or leave Folkestone at 5.30 in the morning (on Saturday).

"They’re the ones who have to go out and perform, after all."
