Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley expects Corinthian Casuals and Hastings United to test his team

Unbeaten Folkestone are top of the table and manager Neil Cugley believes they will get even better.

Five wins and a draw from their first six matches in Ryman League Division 1 South have sent Invicta two points clear going in September.

They also have an FA Cup clash with Tonbridge to look forward to next weekend after knocking Corinthian out on Saturday.

That win was followed by a 3-0 derby triumph over local rivals Hythe on Monday and Folkestone didn’t need to be at their best in either game.

Cugley said: "I am pleased because I think we can play better. We’re renowned for not starting well so to start well is nice.

"Being top is good because people need to knock you off. We’ll keep plugging along and we’ve been good at that over the years – getting in the play-off places and staying there.

"But we need to be tested. We took our foot off the pedal a little bit over the weekend and we need to get going again."

Folkestone’s next two games certainly offer the sort of test Cugley is looking for.

They visit third-placed Corinthian Casuals on Saturday before looking to complete a league double over title rivals Hastings United at the Fullicks Stadium on Tuesday.

Cugley said: "This time next week, we’ll have played Corinthian Casuals, who have made a good start, Hastings home and away, we’ll have gone to Guernsey and played our local derby.

"They’re all tricky games so it would be great if we were still up there."

Invicta will be without Jon Pilbeam and Josh Stanford on Saturday, while Carl Rook and Jordan Wright are injury doubts.
