Boss Neil Cugley cannot wait for Folkestone's huge FA Cup tie.

The high-flying Isthmian Premier outfit, still unbeaten in the league, will host National League North strugglers Gloucester City for a place in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round this Saturday.

Gloucester sacked their manager, Paul Groves, after a 3-0 defeat at Gateshead last weekend with ex-Bristol Rovers midfielder Lee Mansell having been installed as interim boss.

Folkestone had been due to host Hornchurch on Tuesday night in the league but that game was postponed due to the ongoing fuel situation.

There is also £5,625 in prize-money on offer for the victors of the tie, making for quite the occasion.

An excited Cugley said: “Let’s be honest, that (the prize-money) gets talked about as much as the glory. It’s a lot of money for a club like ours.

“Hopefully everybody will get behind the team and we can get through to the next round.

“If you are a player, you want to play in these matches to test yourself.

“They have not started well and their manager has lost his job, but we know they will be up for the game and it will be a good test for us.”

Cugley says he has a near full-strength squad at his disposal.

“I think we only have Kieron McCann that cannot play,” he said.

“So hopefully, I can name a strong side and bench.”

Folkestone go into the cup clash after a topsy-turvy league match against Potters Bar where they threw away a 3-0 lead.

Striker Ian Draycott made history as he converted a penalty to become Folkestone’s record goalscorer, taking his tally to 142.

His spot-kick was sandwiched between efforts from Ade Yusuff and Scott Heard.

But individual errors cost Invicta as strikes from Ben Ward-Cochrane (2) and Samson Esan earned the away team a point at the Fullicks Stadium.

Cugley admitted: “We were disappointed with that. We threw that one away.

“It was just individual errors that cost us, really. At 3-0 up, we looked really comfortable.

“Even after they got level, we had chances to win it.”

But on Draycott’s goalscoring milestone, he added: “He has been a good pro ever since he has been at the club.

"Everybody knows he is a top person and a really easy-going lad.

“As he has got a bit older, he has played a bit deeper for us but he can still definitely do a job for us. I’m really pleased for him.

“As long as he stays fit, he can keep going - certainly we hope until the end of this season anyway!

“No disrespect, but he is not a 50-game-a-year man any more but I cannot see any reason why he can’t carry on.”

Invicta have also signed midfielder Oliver Freeman - brother of Sheffield United’s Luke Freeman - on dual-registration terms from Maidstone.

Cugley said: “I think he will bring a lot of energy as a young lad, trying to make his way in the game.

"I have liked him in training but I have not seen him in a game.

“One of the many disappointments from Saturday is that we might have given him 20 minutes.

"But hopefully, we will see what he can do on the pitch soon.”
