Folkestone manager Neil Cugley admits their Velocity Trophy match at Chichester presents a good chance to rotate his squad - but he says he still wants his senior players to do their bit too.

Invicta make the trip to west Sussex tonight as they aim to get the better of the Isthmian South East side and progress to round four in the competition.

“With the cups, we have not got a massive squad but we will try and utilise the ones who need to get a game,” said Cugley, who felt the draw should have been more regionalised in the Velocity Trophy.

“We don’t have an under-23s side this season but we do have a couple of younger players who we will look to utilise.

"But it's natural to want to win games of football."

Lenny Atherton and Luca Borrello have already got minutes for Folkestone’s first-team this season, while promising goalkeeper Connor Collins has regularly been on the bench.

But Cugley, who is not sure if Borrello will be available as he recovers from illness, added: “We have got an 18-man squad but I don’t think it’s fair to plonk them (the fringe players) all in at once.”

Chichester, who earned a 1-0 home win over Three Bridges in the league on Saturday, have already beaten Hanwell Town and Westfield to reach this stage of the competition.

Folkestone were in Wales on Saturday, losing 5-1 to ambitious National League side Wrexham as Invicta competed at the fourth-round stage of the FA Trophy for the first time in the club's history. Hitman Ade Yusuff got their goal at the Racecourse Ground.

Cugley also spoke of his delight at teenage striker Tyler Sterling, on loan at Hythe, getting on the scoresheet despite their 4-2 home loss to Cray Valley at the weekend.

“I’m pleased, at long last, that he has got his first goal for them,” he admitted.

“To be fair, it’s no good bringing him back (to Folkestone) not to play him at the minute. He needs regular football.

“I have heard Tyler has played a bit better in the last couple of games, as well, which is good news.”
