Manager Neil Cugley declared he is delighted with Folkestone’s start to the season after their win over Kent rivals Herne Bay on Monday in Isthmian Premier.

Invicta earned back-to-back victories over the Bank Holiday weekend as they came from behind to beat Billericay 3-2 on Saturday before goals from Kadell Daniel and Ade Yusuff ensured they beat Ben Smith’s side two days later at Cheriton Road.

Invicta boss Cugley, whose team are third and unbeaten after five league fixtures, said: “We have got to be delighted with our start to the season.

“I think you have got to give a lot of credit to Herne Bay, they chucked everything at us, second half. Their goal, Bailey [Vose] is disappointed that he hasn’t saved it but he has done well so far. It’s just one of those things - the joys of being a goalie, isn’t it?

“That just got them back in the game but, apart from that, I couldn’t really see where they were going to get a goal. They had a lot of possession and chucked everything at us but it was so disappointing to see that goal go in because it just gives them that lift, otherwise the game may have just died at 2-0.

“We were talking in the changing room and saying, maybe, we could have got a third goal - we should have caught them on the break - but we have come through two hard games with the same team, basically.

“So to get six points from them, all credit to the lads.”

Cugley concedes fatigue may have started to set in towards the latter stages of the Herne Bay match, their second in 48 hours, as he insists he thinks there's more to come from his troops.

“I think we got a little bit tired in areas and it sort of showed. But as I said, credit to Herne Bay,” Cugley said. “I thought they played well in the second half, they’ll be beating sides.

“It’s a great start for us as a club, a great crowd [of 926 on Monday], but we know we can play better. I think we played really well in the first 20 minutes, I have got to say.

“A bit like Saturday, we really took the game to them and, on another day, we could have finished them off early on. But give them some credit, they stuck to their task.”

Invicta only made one change to their starting line-up - and that was an enforced one - with Ian Draycott replacing Scott Heard.

On Heard’s absence, Cugley, whose side host North Greenford United in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round this weekend, explained: “He has got a tight calf. We took him off Saturday because it was hurting.

“But hopefully, he will be all right for Saturday and I hope Matt Newman will be back for Saturday. So we could be up with everyone available.

“I think maybe we might need one player and then we will be okay.”
