Folkestone’s promotion charge is gathering pace as the cricket season reaches its halfway stage this weekend.

Three wins in the last four weeks have lifted captain Andy Bray’s side to within a point of the top-two in Kent League Division 1.

Folkestone, who beat local rivals Sibton Park by nine wickets last weekend, are playing their best cricket of the season and should only get better between now and the end of the campaign.

Bray knows he’s got a team capable of breaking into the Premier Division but he’s determined not to lose focus at such a crucial stage of the season.

He said: "I don’t tend to look at the table too much but a couple of guys have said we’re pretty close to doing OK. We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. After next week, we’ll have played everyone once and we’ll get an idea of how good the other teams are.

"This is a great bunch of lads. The guys have worked so hard and we’re starting to gel as a unit now.

"We had new players come in (for this season) and the first five or six weeks were about learning each other’s games.

"But people know each other well now, on and off the field. They put a lot of hard work in during pre-season and the guys are training hard, so I’d like to think we’re reaping the rewards of working so hard since February.”
