Veteran defender Lee Gledhill is training with Folkestone Invicta and could re-join the club for a surprise third spell.

Gledhill, 34, who started his career in the Football League with Barnet, has since played for Gravesend & Northfleet, Welling and Maidstone.

He turned out for Invicta in 2008/09 and returned to the club in 2012 before moving on again.

Gledhill joined the Folkestone squad on Saturday for the first day of pre-season training and manager Neil Cugley has left the door open for Gledhill to sign a deal at the Fullicks Stadium.

"He’s had a year off but he’s been training with us,” Cugley said. “He lives in Ashford and it’s been good to have him about because he’s a good character.

"I had him before but finances meant we had to let him go when we were top of the league.

"I don’t know where it will go but he’ll play a few of the friendlies."

Former Folkestone players Kane Phillip and Chris Elliott were also at training, hoping to earn new deals for next season but Dane Luchford was absent.]

Cugley revealed: "He’s broken a metatarsal. He slipped at work and he’ll be out for a month which is hard for him.

"He’ll be fit for the start of the season but he wants to be pushing now to get signed before the start of the season.

"He wanted to show he could do it at a higher level (Luchford left to join Tunbridge Wells last October) so this is a setback for him."
