FFX Yamaha rider Ian Hutchinson starts his first full British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch
08:00, 16 April 2014
Brands Hatch is the setting for Ian Hutchinson’s racing comeback with the new FFX Yamaha team this weekend.
Injury-plagued Hutchinson has come through 30 operations to reach this point – the start of his first full season in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship (BSB).
And the team, sponsored by Folkestone-based tool suppliers FFX, are hoping the 34-year-old can get them off to a good start at the iconic Kent circuit.
Hutchinson said: "I’m looking forward to getting the Brands Hatch weekend started. I’ve had three years of not racing but after the last test, I feel more comfortable and confident on the Superbike.
"The build-up to my racing return has been how I expected. When it comes to the races and being up at the sharp end, I’m sure it will be a lot harder, but I know I have it in me to be successful.
"I love riding the Superbike and at Brands Hatch I am going to work away, get in amongst the other riders and learn their ways. I’m not apprehensive about getting back out and I’m really looking forward to getting back into the races again."
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland’s Andy Reid starts his Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship campaign for FFX Yamaha this weekend.
Racing takes place across all four days of the Easter weekend, with the BSB and Superstock main races both taking place on Bank Holiday Monday. For tickets and the full schedule, visit www.brandshatch.co.uk.
