Boss Andy Drury may consider strengthening Folkestone’s squad for their season run-in.

Isthmian Premier Invicta have played only twice in the past month but will aim for a productive return to action, which could ease any lingering relegation fears.

However, with a further 11 fixtures to play this campaign, Drury may consider bolstering Folkestone’s ranks after the versatile Kane Penn’s departure.

He said: “I think, now, we’re having to go Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday - and Friday-Monday over Easter - we will have more games than I expected.

“So, we’re looking at one or two players. But they have got to be the right players.

“There might be a bit of movement in the next few weeks but nothing major.”

Drury explained full-back Penn, who has also played in midfield since his summer arrival, has left due to work commitments. He has since signed for Horsham and made his debut in their weekend 3-1 win at Margate.

“Kane couldn’t do the extra travelling to get to training anymore,” the manager stated.

“He was getting in a bit of trouble at work for leaving early. He came to me and said he cannot keep doing it.

“Kane needed to get a club down there and Horsham is fairly near to where he lives. Kane is a good lad and he did well for us.

“It’s a shame to lose him - but there’s not a lot you can do when it’s work commitments.”

While their matches have fallen victim to the weather, Invicta have been able to train at Kedbull Leisure in Gravesend.

“We have trained Tuesday-Thursday and trained on Saturday,” said Drury.

“Obviously, training-wise, we’re not struggling.

“But you don’t want to lose that match fitness. It took some of the boys that signed in December a few weeks to find that.”

Folkestone only sit narrowly above the relegation zone, despite improving since the start of the year, ahead of home games against basement boys Kingstonian this Saturday and fellow strugglers Canvey Island next weekend.

Drury said: “They’re big games. But once we win a couple, hopefully, we will not be looking over our shoulders.”

Drury watched their scheduled weekend visitors play out a 1-1 draw with Cheshunt last week as he started to prepare for their contest at Cheriton Road a day after his team had played out a goalless draw with Potters Bar.

He revealed: “I went to watch them last Wednesday against Cheshunt. They’re hard-working.

“Years ago, you maybe had three or four games where they were a little bit of a ‘gimme’. If you were on it, you pretty much would get three points.

“Whether it’s Concord, Kingstonian or Haringey, they’re tough games. We have to make sure we’re at it.”

Toby Byron is set to return from a lengthy suspension. The defender was controversially dismissed in Folkestone’s 2-0 home loss to former club Hornchurch in late January - but had been unable to complete his three-game ban until now.

“He’s one that we need to get up to speed,” Drury admitted.

“He was doing really well, got an injury for a few weeks and then got suspended - and has been out for a month!

“We’re a bit short in one or two areas, and we’re a bit heavy in others, but we have got competition for places.

“So, if people do well, they will stay in the team.”

Invicta lost 2-1 at Isthmian South East Sheppey in a friendly on Tuesday, despite forward Tom Derry’s second-half goal.
