Neil Cugley hopes Folkestone can give a better account of themselves when they take on North Leigh for the second time this season in an FA Trophy second qualifying round tie on Saturday.

The Southern League Division 1 South & West side won 3-1 against an understrength Invicta in Oxfordshire in the FA Cup third qualifying round last month and Cugley is hoping they see a different side of Invicta at the Fullicks Stadium (3pm).

Cugley said: “We had half the team missing that day, although take nothing away from them, they deserved to win it –we couldn’t moan about it.

“You have periods of a week or two in a season when things seem to be going against you a little bit. We had players out injured, we’d just brought in a couple of new signings – that game just seemed to fall in that low period for us.

“Hopefully, we have moved on a bit since then and can show a better side of ourselves this weekend.”

With £3,250 in prize money and a place in the third qualifying round at stake, Cugley added: “Of course we’d like to progress – any side would like to have that income coming in.”

Invicta made it 13 goals in three games on Saturday with a 6-0 win against Canvey Island – their largest success since clinching the Division 1 South title against Walton & Hersham last March.

After another win using Invicta’s new 3-5-2 formation, Cugley added: “We still have people to come back and we choose formations based upon the players we have available.

“The 3-5-2 has worked nicely recently and Jordan Wright has come through and Sam Beale, he’d played a lot of Conference South football but we hadn’t seen the best of him in his first few games but the last few he’s been excellent.”

Phil Starkey is set to return from injury on Saturday but Miles Cornwell is cup-tied.
