Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley pleased with the progress of youngsters Jordan Wright and Callum Wraight

Manager Neil Cugley has backed emerging talents Jordan Wright and Callum Wraight to be stars of the future at Folkestone Invicta.

Cugley, who’s about to reach 900 games in charge of the club, is bringing the pair through as part of his latest squad reshuffle at the Fullicks Stadium.

Midfielder Wright, 20, impressed in both FA Cup clashes against Margate and kept his place for Saturday’s trip to Guernsey. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Wraight, a versatile defender, is earning rave reviews on loan at Ashford United in the Southern Counties East League.

Cugley said: "I’m thinking about the future and these two boys are doing well.

"Jordan’s been outstanding, considering his first two games were against Margate. That’s the hardest baptism you could have at this level, playing Margate home and away with their quality players.

"He’s done ever so well in big games, including Guernsey away – with the travel and all that goes with it. I was about to take him off on Saturday but he sprang into life in the last 20 minutes and caused them a lot of problems.

"He gives us more legs in midfield and his passing is excellent. He keeps the ball moving so well. He’s only a little lad but he doesn’t pull out of things.

"He’s only going to get better. I wondered at first whether he was going to be strong enough but he’s already played against good players and I hope he’s going to be a permanent fixture in the team.

"Callum’s on loan at Ashford and he’s still playing in our youth team. He’s in my thoughts and he could well be getting in the first team in the next few weeks."

Folkestone lost 2-0 away to East Grinstead on Tuesday and to cap a bad night, they had right-back Josh Vincent sent-off.

Cugley's side are 10th in Ryman League Division 1 South, four points outside the play-offs.

Their next game is away to Hastings United on Monday night.
