Folkestone pace bowler Hugh Bernard has been named in the England under-19 squad to tour Western Australia.

The 18-year-old’s international call-up follows his success at club level in 2014. Bernard was a star of the Folkestone side which won promotion back to the Kent League Premier Division, taking 35 wickets at an average of 17.91.

He’s joined in the 16-man England squad by fellow Kent player Ryan Davies, who keeps wicket for Sandwich Town. The pair will be on tour from March 25-April 25.

England start with a two-day game against a Western Australia XI at Murdoch University in Perth before taking on Australia U19s over four days at the world-famous WACA.

Then follow two 50-over games down the coast in Bunbury and three back at Murdoch University.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Folkestone boxer Josh Kennedy is now just over two weeks away from his second professional fight.

Kennedy faces Bulgaria’s Valentin Marinov at York Hall in London on Saturday, March 14 and he’s called for the people of Folkestone to get behind him in numbers as he bids to make it two wins from two.

Kennedy said: "I’m a local lad doing something decent. There are a lot of bad things going on in Folkestone and I’m trying to put the town on the map for the right reasons.

"There are semi-professional footballers from Folkestone but not many professional athletes.

"It would be nice to have lots of people interested, especially when I’m in the ring.

"Having your own crowd there makes all the difference."
