Sibton Park Cricket Club up against Miskin Manor for the right to play at Lord's in the Davidstow Village Cup final
00:00, 03 August 2016
Sibton Park Cricket Club are one win from Lord’s and hundreds are expected to watch their National Village Cup semi-final in Lyminge on Sunday.
Victory over Welsh side Miskin Manor (1pm start) would send Sibton to the home of cricket for what would be the biggest game in their history.
Park skipper Steven Rowe has spent a decade at the club but the Australian has never led them out for a game of this magnitude.
He said: "It’s huge. As a club cricketer, you dream of giving yourself a chance to play somewhere like Lord’s and this game gives us that.
"It’s a massive opportunity for the players and from the club’s perspective, it’s a good day financially. It’s good to get a big crowd down here to see the ground and what we offer.
"The people around the village don’t often get down here so it’s good for that. It’s exciting."
Sibton, fifth in Kent League Division 2, reached the quarter-finals last season before losing at home to Foxton.
Rowe added: "These opportunities don’t come around often and we’ve worked hard to get here. We’ve played some good cricket in this competition in some tough games that we might have lost.
"We’ve done well to get ourselves into this position and it’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get a game at Lord’s. We’ve got to play well one more time. If we can do that, we deserve to be there.
"You don’t want to overhype it but it is a massive game. We all know what’s at stake
and hopefully we can perform.
"We’ll have a barbecue going, the bar will be open and there’s loads of space for picnics.
"We want to be a family-friendly club and this sort of day typifies what we’re about."
