Harry Smith has left Folkestone Invicta to sign for Millwall.

The 6ft 6in striker has been training with the Lions in pre-season and now a deal has been agreed to take him to The Den.

It's a jump of five divisions for Smith, whose goals helped Folkestone to the Ryman League Division 1 South title last season.

Smith only joined Invicta last December from Kent rivals Sittingbourne, who will receive 15% of the undisclosed fee Millwall are paying Folkestone for the centre-forward.

Invicta boss Neil Cugley said: "We’re delighted for Harry. He came to the club, worked hard, did well and we’re not there to stop a lad going into professional football.

"If we’re being honest, the initial fee isn’t quite what we were hoping to get but we’re not there to stop players. The add-ons and everything else are good so if he can get some first-team games under his belt rather quickly, the money increases and inside a year we could have done very well.

"Millwal have agreed a first-team friendly with us at the beginning of next season so it’s a good deal for us. It could have been better with the initial payment but we had to accept that and move on.

"With the EFL Trophy and League Cup all counting as first-team games, he could soon make us better off."

Smith has signed a two-year deal with the League 1 club.

Millwall manager Neil Harris said: "We are delighted to get Harry on board. He was flagged up by our recruitment department and has done well since he came to us during pre-season.

"Harry has the attributes to be a very good footballer but there is still a lot that he has to improve on as a player. Physically he is a good size but his technical abilities are clear for all to see as well, so the potential is there.

"But potential is only one thing in football and it takes time to fulfil it. He will have to work hard with us and at the same time we will have to be patient with him as he looks for chances to get into our first team."
