Gillingham and Millwall are among the Football League clubs interested in Folkestone striker Harry Smith.

The 21-year-old impressed during a trial with Aberdeen last season and was close to signing for the Scottish Premiership club.

Smith, whose goals helped Invicta clinch promotion to the Ryman League Premier Division, also trained with Gills and featured in a development game.

AFC Wimbledon are also monitoring the 6ft 6in centre-forward.

Smith said: "I’m in from July 1 with Millwall. When I was up in Aberdeen, there was talk of Millwall then but nothing materialised.

"I was with Gillingham towards the back-end of the season and played a game for them but I was only on for 15 minutes and tore my hip flexor. I broke my hand a week later so it was a bit of a nightmare.

"They seemed quite keen but then I suffered the injury so that went a bit stale. I’m not sure if that will pick up when the season comes again.

"Millwall’s a good opportunity and I’ve had a few calls from my agent about other clubs in the League like AFC Wimbledon, who have just come up. That’s a nice opportunity there but we’ll just focus on Millwall.

"That’s all done now, I’ll definitely be in with them for a couple of weeks so we’ll see how that one goes.

"It’s just strange. I’m not used to it. Ever since Aberdeen, it’s been 100mph, a phone call every day or something new.

"It’s definitely exciting - and it’s hard to keep up!"

Folkestone signed Smith from Sittingbourne in December and manager Neil Cugley has always spoken about him as a player with huge potential.

He said: "I’ve got no problem with him going there (Millwall). They watched him in four games last year. We’re happy he’s going but he’s a contracted player and we’d want a fee for him.

"We’re not going to stop people moving on. We want to be known as a club that will encourage younger players to come and show what they’ve got.

"But as I said to Harry himself, it’s about how he performs. It doesn’t matter what trials he goes on, he’s the one that’s got to perform."
