Hull City beat Aston Villa and Charlton Athletic to the signature of Folkestone Invicta striker Johan Ter Horst

12:20, 17 March 2014

Hull City have signed Folkestone striker Johan Ter Horst on a three-year deal.

The Tigers have paid an undisclosed fee for the 18-year-old, who travelled to Humberside for a medical this morning (Monday).

Ter Horst will start training with Hull immediately but he'll keep playing for Folkestone until the end of the season before moving to the North East.

Ter Horst, in only his first full season in senior football, has already scored 21 goals for Folkestone in 2013/14.

He's been pursued by several big clubs in recent weeks and Invicta manager Neil Cugley fielded 300 phone calls from clubs and agents in the last fortnight.

Ter Horst was linked with a move to Charlton Athletic and played for the Addicks' under-21 side against Cardiff City last month.

Aston Villa were also reported to be keen on the teenager, who's formed a prolific partnership with veteran striker Paul Booth at Folkestone this season.

The pair have scored 39 goals between them and Ter Horst will be hoping to fire his current club to promotion via the play-offs before he moves to Hull in the summer.

Cugley said: "I'm so pleased for him. It's a great opportunity, at a good Premier League club. Other clubs messed us about but Hull have been brilliant.

"Steve Bruce is a good man. He moved away (from home) years ago when he went to play for Gillingham and he got a bit homesick, so he'll understand what Johan's going through."
