Sibton Park Cricket Club face arguably the biggest game in their history on Sunday when they take on Foxton for a place in the National Village Cup semi-finals.

The winners will be just one win away from a Lord’s final and Park skipper Steven Rowe has called on the local population to back his side in big numbers.

Sibton were drawn away in the quarter-finals but rain meant only seven balls were bowled at Foxton on Sunday, resulting in the tie being switched to Lyminge. Play starts at 1pm and entry is free.

Rowe said: "We’ve probably not had many bigger games.

"It’s different this time because we’ve had a few big games in the last few years when we needed a win to get promoted. The first time we went up to the Premier Division was special but in the lead-up to that, it was just another league game.

"This is a cup tie, winner takes all, so there is added gravitas.

"It’s huge for a club of our size to get to the quarter-final of a national competition. We’ve played some good cricket in this competition this year.

"It’s exciting for everybody involved. It’s there for us if we’re good enough and that’s all the motivation anyone really needs.

"It could be ours if we play well. If we execute our skills and play like we have done previously, it’s there for us."
