Wesley Shrubsole angling: Conger eels are bouncing back
06:00, 03 December 2020
We may have sadly lost the cod from our shores but the conger eel is making a comeback!
Stocks crashed after the bitter winter back in the 1960s and it looked bleak for the species.
But, as this picture of Jay Blackmar shows, there are a few about here in the south east.
This fine specimen is one of the largest from the shore of late but many smaller specimens have been reported.
The big seas and strong winds have seen anglers catching plenty of fish from all venues but the freshwater angler has seen sport slow due to the large quantity of cold rainwater entering the ponds and lakes.
Rivers will fish better after this flush through with pike and perch the target - good luck!
