Traffic has now cleared on the A2 after two cars were involved in an accident.
Watling Street was blocked London-bound due to the collision between Henhurst Road and A227 Wrotham Road.
All lanes reopened at about 9.30am.
At one point, all traffic was being held up, with tailbacks as far as Strood.
The accident was reported at 7.47am and emergency services, including police and ambulance crews, plus Highways England traffic officers, were called to the scene.
A police spokesman said earlier: "Kent Police was called 7.40am on Monday February 6 to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on the London-bound carriageway of the A2, Watling Street, Gravesend.
"Officers are currently at the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service. One person has reported minor injuries.
"A lane closure is currently in place from the A227 to allow the incident to be dealt with. Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
Elsewhere there was plenty of congestion on the A282 anti-clockwise heading towards the Dartford Crossing between J2 and the Tunnel.
Motorists going over to Essex were advised to allow extra time for their journey.
