A new aerial image has revealed progress on a multi-million-pound riverside housing project.

Homebuilder Keepmoat has invested more than £91m into the regeneration scheme at the former AEI Cable Works factory site in Northfleet.

Now named Cable Wharf, in honour of its historical significance, the scheme looks to create new, energy-efficient homes that will replace 28.6 acres of brownfield land.

Completion of the development is planned for 2035 when it will form part of a 598-home development on the banks of the River Thames, near Gravesend.

Regional managing director at Keepmoat for the South Midlands, Adam Knight, said: “We are thrilled to be continuing delivery under our strategic partnership model to build quality, sustainable homes for the latest phase in this historic regeneration project.

“As the Cable Wharf project nears completion and our communities begin to flourish, it is extremely rewarding to hear positive feedback from residents and breathe new life into the area.”

The housing scheme, which is part of the Ebbsfleet Garden City development, will also include commercial space for shops and cafes and a primary school.

Earlier this year, Rosherville Church of England Academy won approval for its bid to move to a new site in Cable Wharf.

An expansion and relocation has been on the cards for decades and will see the school, which currently has 141 youngsters aged four to 11, add nearly an extra 100 pupils.

The land was awarded to the Kent County Council (KCC) as part of the Cable Wharf housing developer's section 106 contributions.
