An apprentice is heading to the top – he’s climbing electricity poles as part of his new career.
Damon Martin, 24, of Beacon Drive, Bean, is among 30 candidates to join UK Power Networks; on-the-job training scheme.
He will be working for the company which supplies power across the south east, London and east of England.
Damon, who be based at the company’s offices in Strood while he trains to become a linesman, said: “I want to progress into something specialised and stumbled on becoming a linesman.
“I like being outside in the country and don’t mind working at height, so it’s the best career choice for me.
“I will be training to work on wooden electricity poles and pylons which carry electricity at up to 132,000 volts.”
Damon, who has completed an electrician apprenticeship and has been in the trade for eight years, will be embarking on the company’s advanced training programme.
