Armed police surround home in Kemsley Close, Northfleet

Armed police have spent more than 10 hours at the scene of an incident in a residential street.

Officers were sent to the scene in Kemsley Close, Northfleet just after 9pm last night.

The police helicopter was also deployed during the incident, which lasted more than 10 hours. One man was detained.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of assault and affray.

Police spokesman Martin Very said: "We were called at 6.55pm on Thursday to a report of a disturbance at an address in Kemsley Close, Northfleet.

"Officers, including firearms officers, attended the scene and a local man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of assault and affray.

"He remains in police custody while an investigation into the circumstances continues."

Neighbours were told to remain indoors during the incident.

An eye-witness said one man was detained shortly after 5am.
