Gravesend Tesco and B&M shops damaged as man appears in court

Shop windows were smashed by an alleged vandal causing £7,000 of damage to town centre stores.

A teenager is now due in court accused of three offences at shops in Gravesend.

Wail Hamid, 19, of Perry Street in Northfleet was arrested after reports of damage to B&M and Tesco Metro.

The stores, both in New Road, were damaged in the early hours of Tuesday.

Officers from the Gravesham Local Policing Team were called and carried out a search of the area before identifying Hamid as a suspect.

He has also been charged with targetting the B&M outlet on a separate occasion on July 30.

Hamid was due to appear before Medway Magistrates' Court today charged with three counts of criminal damage but the case has been adjourned until tomorrow. He has been remanded in custody.
