Arrest in six-year-old murder case

A man has been charged with the murder of a Gravesend husband six years ago.
Baljinder Singh Kooner, 34,was charged with the murder of Kamaljit Kalon in Gravesend.
Mr Kalon, who was known as Bobby, was 31 when he was stabbed more than 40 times in front of horrified families in Gordon Promenade off Commercial Road in Gravesend in July 2003.
Kooner, also known as Jindi, was arrested in Paris under a European arrest warrant on September 29. He was then subject to an extradition hearing which was not contested.
Mr Kooner was extradited on Wednesday, October 7, and taken to Maidstone police station where he was charged.
He was collected from Paris by Kent police officers and was due to appear at Maidstone Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
Mr Kooner is the second person to be charged with the murder after Guljinder Singh Gurewel. Gurewell, 34, admitted the murder and was sentenced to life in September 2008.
