Pepper Hill fire
09:19, 02 June 2013
One hundred tons of hay were destroyed in a fire at a farm near Pepper Hill on Saturday night.
The blaze broke out at Broadditch Farm, off New Barn Road at about 9pm,
When firefighters from Thames-side arrived it was well alight and they spent two hours battling the flames.
The bales were still smouldering this morning and the day watch is due to return today to make sure it is safe.
Firefighter Alex Kincade said: “In a situation like this, it is better that it burns our rather than put water on it. When we went out earlier on this morning it was dying out well.”
