Land between a restaurant and a supermarket is likely to be turned into a business centre.

Capital Space Limited has submitted an outline planning application to Gravesham council for offices, workshops, light industrial units and parking on land south of Coldharbour Road, Gravesend. between Toby Carvery and Morrisons.

It is being dubbed as an ‘enterprise centre’ and will provide cost-effective work spaces for new businesses.

The applicant already has nine similar centres around England, including two in Kent – Churchill Square Business Centre in Kings Hill and St George’s Business Park in Castle Road, Sittingbourne.

This application follows a similar one for the same site, approved in 2007 and renewed in 2010.

The Gravesham Economy and Employment Space Study (2009) highlighted that development of this site would enhance employment provision in the area especially given it is in a strong position, with quick access off the A2. The plans also allow for disabled parking and a footpath along the northern boundary, next to Coldharbour Road. Details of how it will look will only be revealed should outline permission be approved.

Opposite the proposed business centre, on the other side of the road, a plan for 400 homes was approved in June last year.

The 453-acre development will be mostly two-storey homes with 120 designated as affordable housing. It will be undertaken by Bovis Homes, Persimmon Homes and the Colyer-Fergusson Charitable Trust.

In 2013, a 60-bedroom hotel was given the green light for a plot of land on the other side of Toby Carvery to the business park. The land has so far failed to attract a buyer.

Another application will soon be considered by Gravesham council for the old Tollgate Hotel which could be turned into another petrol station.
