A driver smashed into a bollard, wrecking the front of the car and causing an almighty bang - before ripping off the number plate and leaving the scene.
Police were called after the car smashed into the post before being abandoned in Burch Road, Northfleet.
The driver of the Volvo S40 hit a large block, with Lansdowne Square carved into it for the overlooking flats, as well as the bollard.
A police spokesman said: "Officers seized the vehicle and carried out inquiries to locate the registered owner, who visited the police station voluntarily the next day.
"Inquiries into the incident are ongoing."
One witness, Brendon James Fleming, reported seeing four men walk out of the car after impact.
He added: "I heard a large bang, it woke me up instantly, I've never heard anything like it.
"The driver took belongings from the front passenger seat, ripped off the number plate, and walked off casually like nothing had happened."
Fosters cans were also reportedly thrown into the road as the group left the scene.
The incident happened at 6.15am on Saturday.
