Crash scene investigators appeal for information after pair die in crash on the A2 at Pepper Hill

Two men died after a crash on the A2 near Gravesend last night.

The pair died after a smash between two cars shortly before 11pm on the London-bound carriageway at Pepper Hill.

The road was closed for about 11 hours while crash scene officers continued their investigations.

Police and ambulance crews as well as firefighters were called to the scene, near to the junction for Bean, at about 10.50pm and the pair were pronounced dead at the scene.

It was initially thought the road would be closed until at least mid-morning, but reopened at about 7am.

A diversion was put in place until then.

Officers say a black Volkswagen Polo was reported to have collided with a white Volkswagen Golf.

It is believed the Golf may have broken down in the carriageway and was stationary when the collision occurred.

One man, aged in is his 20s, and another man, aged in his 30s, were declared dead at the scene. It is believed they had left the broken down vehicle when they were struck.

Both were from the Gravesend area and their next of kin have been informed.

Four other people sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

None of these are believed to be life threatening.

Officers are particularly interested to speak to people who may have dash cam footage of the white VW Golf before the crash.
