Nell’s Cafe in Gravesend is in the running to be named Britain’s Best Cafe and, if it wins, the owners get a holiday to Cuba.
Sandra Hassan took over the running of the Marling Way diner, a well-known landmark just off the A2, in December.
She said: “We’ve given the place a new lease of life and got a new chef.
“Everything is homemade now, even the gravy. We’re very grateful to the people who have voted for us so far and we would love more people to.”
Ossie's Cafe in Copperfields Shopping Centre, Spital Street, Dartford, has also been nominated along with Fleetdale Cafe in the town.
Lyn's Breakfast Bar near New Ash Green is another cafe up for the award.
The national competition is run by SIG Roofing, which has a branch in Gravesend.
To vote go to britainsbestcafe.co.uk or visit SIG.
