A dog was rescued by firefighters after a blaze spread from a back garden into a home in Gravesend.
Crews from Thames-side and Strood were called out to put out the fire at a flat in Medhurst Gardens, at about 11.30pm last night.
The fire, which started in the garden, spread to a nearby pile of wood close to the building and flames quickly spread up it.
The heat from the flames broke a window and the fire spread inside the flat.
Crews used breathing apparatus to enter the property and found a labrador-type dog in the bathroom.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The fire started outside and spread inside and the flames caused quite a bid damage to the upstairs back room.
“The dog was rescued and we used our pet therapy mask to give him oxygen and he was fine.
“We spent a good two hours at the scene and used breathing apparatus to enter the property.”
The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is not being treated as suspicious.
